Mac App Store – Holy Crap

Today was the launch day for the Mac App Store. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically the same as the iPhone App Store, but for OSX. A lot of developers have been looking forward to it and a lot of developers aren’t.

After what happened with the iPhone app store, I figured I shouldn’t miss out on the opening of the Mac App Store. So I paid the $100 and got a Mac developer account. I had been working on getting syncing working in my app, Toto, as well as putting some more stuff into Thoughtback. All I needed to do was get my apps submitted by New Years Eve and they would make it into the store.

Well, my apps were approved and they made it into the store. This was more successful than I ever imagined it would be. When I searched to do list, I got 6 results. Toto was the only one that was free. When I started typing “thought” into the search box, “thoughtback” autocompleted. Both apps are in the top 100 most downloaded free apps. (I think theres only just over 100 free apps but still kinda cool). Thoughtback has had 700 people sign up at the time I wrote this. Yesterday, we had 150 people signed up. Whoa. I also had 90 people sign up for TotoSync, which is a semi hidden feature of Toto, which doesn’t officially launch until the iPhone app is approved. Hopefully that’ll be tomorrow.

I can’t wait until tomorrow when I see how many times the apps were actually downloaded.
